about

Bent Omelette (DADA #1) is a fatback beat-driven, jazzy blues/word salad salute to DADA, the early 20th century movement in art and literature based on deliberate irrationality and negation of traditional artistic values, a reaction to the horrors of WWI. Think William Burroughs’ cut-ups meeting The Meters in a dark alley of the mind. There’s an internal logic to the words that strain prettily against their real world meaning, suggesting an all-too American cartoonish sense of normalcy, like the couplet intoned at the conclusion: "Oily, oily. Roll up your dreams and slide down Lois Lane." The track is a preview for what's in store with Vapor Vespers' forthcoming sophomore album, "Ghosts Before Breakfast."

Vapor Vespers Anchorage, Alaska

Vapor Vespers is a transcontinental collaboration between acclaimed NYC instrumentalist Sal Cataldi (aka Spaghetti Eastern Music) and Alaskan writer Mark Muro. It’s a sonic funhouse that draws upon everything from Fripp & Eno ambience and Krautrock space explorations to 70s Miles Davis jazz-noise bromides and baroque classicalism, all to season a world of surreal spoken word ruminations. ... more
